Insulated firebox build

  6. Thanks for the comments. I'll be building a custom trailer for this pit later but for now I'm going to use a utility trailer for it. To have it ready for a cook off in March
     
  7. wow thats some good metal work and a good looking rig so far.  I do have a question tho. I am new to building my own smokers but I would like to know why you placed your fire box so high on the cooking chamber? 
     
  8. So I can bring the heat in high and the exhaust out low this way, will allow for even heat all the way across ur pit. And make it so easy to adjust temps.
     
  9. Here is a list of what I build a smoker with:

    1/4" steel firebox with 1" of ceramic wool insulation wrap with another 1/4" box built to cover that.

    Then 24" cold rolled pipe 1/4" thick

    5" exhaust

    1/2" door with a oven seal installed

    This way you will have minimal heat loss. Burn less wood and hold temps for a long time with out touching the smoker.
