OK.. so I am playing around with a Watlow PID controller and an MES 30... The original controls have quit working, plus I want more precise control of temps...

What I am trying to figure out is... can the existing thermocouple in the MES be used with the PID ? If so what type TC is it so I can set the right configuration in the controller ?

I see the TC in the upper left corner of the cabinet.. but what is the button looking thing on the left side about half way down that is wired into the heating element ? Is that something to stop the temps from going to high ?

Thoughts and comments please....

Hey Keith,
I don't know if the MES thermocouple can be used and the other thing sounds like a thermal cut-off switch.
If I were going to connect a thermocouple to a PID like that, I'd go with k-type thermocouple.....in my experience, the thermocouples are much more reliable than some of the standard stuff that's commonly used.
The main reason why I like the k-type.....the thermocouple cable can be several feet long.....I like that because I can keep the PID inside where weather isn't an issue and it's also easier to keep an eye on it.

Female Panel mount connector for K thermocouple.

A couple different thermocouples:

K Type Thermocouple w/ alligator clip tip.

K type thermocouple 4"probe with Clip.

Auber also sells K-type extension cables.
