Ahh I didn't think the handle was on the lid in the picture. Cool handle to. Nice to know people that can do that stuff. I have a guy that ran a bobcat for us in the snow that has a dustless sandblaster and can powder coat. Gonna get mine done there when I'm done with it. What ideas do you have for the paint?
Not real sure about the paint. Tossing around several ideas...

It's alive..sort of. Still have a few things to do. Mount the thermometer, mount a handle and the hook to hang the lid. Waiting on the ball valve and caps for the intakes.
Was burning for a while before I realized I forgot to put the grate in it. Popped it open and seen some moisture pudding on the bottom, this normal?

I see you got her going,  Great  now for the meat

Sure will....but this will probably be the end of the rain in our area to the fall.....
You might be right if it is anything like last year. I am already thinking about building a new one for me because I see the bottom of mine is about to rust through even though it's up off the ground.

that's why I put feet on ours, hoping to prolong its life before the bottom goes away.

I got mine on plywood blocks and it has gone over 3 years. Just flip it every now and then and hit the bottom with flat black woodstove paint. I do this about once a year. I just looked at it again and it's not that bad. I forgot to paint the bottom initially so that's where it got going on the corrosion.

I do have some black header paint for it. Just wanted to burn it once or twice before spraying it. Before the rains came we had several windy days. Can't paint it in the garage, my car was just painted a couple years back.

Just spent some time digging little drainage ditches to get rid of the lakes that are forming right in front of us.

It looks like it's going to clear up here. I see blue sky to the south. We needed the rain for the crops here and could use quite a bit more. It's been awfully dry this spring.

Finally quit raining here, supposed to be 72 tomorrow

We are in a lull right now. Still very grey. Hell, let me show you... Started rain again. Normally we go thru 4.5 tons of pellets in a winter. Just started the third ton yesterday. We may have had 5" of snow this winter. Fraid it is going to be a long fire filled summer.
Earlier Ernie asked me when I was going to fire up the field mower lol.

You are in Texas, correct Gary? Weren't you folks in a horrible drought just last year or so?

Put it on three bricks till you put feet on it. My acts funny solid on the ground. What temps are you at. Is your drum a thick one or thin. I went to a thick drum and a lot changed that's why I have no ball valves. I'll help any way I can.

Thick or thin? Didn't know that there is a difference. can say that my Millermatic 180, or more like its operator, can't weld on it without creating vents. Temps? Haven't mounted the thermometer, that's on the list for today, right after I get the BGE set up to cold smoke some cheese and butter.

I see feet.
I see dead people...lol...it is indeed on feet. With the back troubles I have I like things elevated. Should have made the legs longer..

I had a thin drum cooked great, went to a thicker drum and the problems started. My thicker drum probably weighs 50lbs without lids or air intakes. I had 3/4 intakes on thinner drum, had to go to 1 inch with thicker drum. I've noticed moisture in mine on windy days and without damper on exist. Wind was getting in exhaust causing temp swings. Get your gauge installed fire it up and see what she does. Let me know.

Heading out to the garage right now...
