Injection techniques

So my "farewell smoke" with my old Brinkmann gasser was a pork butt.  It turned out well, but in trying to step up my game I had a strange situation.

I'd bought a Bayou Classic 5011 2-Ounce Stainless-Steel Seasoning Injector to inject the butt.

I mixed up a smaller batch of Mixon's pork injection and in trying to inject it, it just poured out the needle (yes, I used the right needle).

I assume I screwed up cutting down the recipe and it was not thick enough, but in reading other injection recipes here, they don't seem to be much thicker.

I'm doing a brisket in my new Smoke Hollow no. 6 Saturday and I don't want to screw it up!

Sounds like your plunger isn't sealing. Even plain water should stay in the injector since it's sealed at the top. If there's no way for air to get in, there's no way for liquid to get out.

I have the same injector never been used just arrived last week.I went and tried it with plain water and both needles.If I shook it I would get it to drip but held the water .Check the O ring when taking it apart to clean mite of got bugger up

Took it apart, reassembled carefully. Now all is good. Just needed to train the user!
