I'm ready to pull the trigger on an MES 30" but a good deal came up on Craigslist.tonight.

I've been reading the eletric smoker forum for the past few nights after seeing the Black Friday price at Bass Pro.  $179 for the MES 30" SS with window and meat probe, regular priced at ~$339.  I'm ready to be at their door at 5:30AM but tonight on our local Craigslist was this listing: "$110 for a MasterBuilt 4 Rack Digital Stainless Steel Electric Smoker. Used only 3 times. Like new. Paid 225.00."

I spoke to the owner and he said the unit is 2 years old.  Given the numerous posts on potential heating element problems, I'm leaning towards the Bass Pro unit but the low price and sleeping in on Black Friday are also appealing:-)  Anyone see any issues with the Craigslist unit if it is as advertised and he accepts $100?  Thanks, Mike  START CLTAGS

It may the model that has a sealed element. If the last three of the id is 106 I would pass on it and get the warranteed unit for $179.

I have a 30 and love it...ends with 110.

If it is a 106..it is repairable if you are handy...Just got to remove rivets and replace with sheet metal screws.

I can do that.  I have been reading this forum quite a bit over the past few days and I want to thank everyone for sharing thier experiences and expertise.

Thanks Al,

I decided to go for the new MES SS 30 from Bass Pro for $179 on Black Friday (arggg, have to be up at 4am).  Bass Pro also sent me a $10 Member Rewards which brings the price down to $169 plus 5% to Virginia.  A very good deal indeed.

I can't wait to do a pork butt, ribs and my first brisket!

Happy Holidays,

Mike

UUMMMMM... If they by any chance have the MES SS 40 on a big sale... do yourself a favor and get that one If you can afford it.. if not the 30 will do... after awhile your just gonna wish you had a bigger smoker is all

Unfortunately, Bass Pro will not have the 40 on sale.  I did go to Sam's Club today to look at the MES SS 40 at $299, very nice, but almost twice the price.  So, if the MES 30 gets too small, I'll put it up for sale and move up and on to the 40.  That should be a couple years away and there may me a good sale on the 40 during that time :-)

Craig, are you sure about the 110 model number? I went to the Masterbuilt website and there are 2 30" models. They end with the numbers: 411 and 210. Before I make a purchase, I want to ensure that I'm buying the most recent version.

Thank you!

If they are showing 210 for the 30..it may be because it is a new model...with therm and window or something../.
