Welcome! It's hard to understand what you are asking. All the smokers I've seen with water trays have the tray on the very bottom under the food. Most people I've read on this site don't even put water in it. if you mean top of the smoker the damper should be the only way water could get in. Either bend pipe to 90 degrees or offsetaway from food! Good luck!

I think what you are asking is if moisture will build up on the inside of the grill lid.I use a uds system that I built that has a flat metal lid and I can honestly say I have never had an issue with moisture accumulating on the inside of the lid.

stolps  thanks my smoker will have a water bowl in it for the first cook

tried to add a drawing of my smoker but it did not work. cooking chamber is 22''x 66' fire box is 24'' x 24'' with a 6" pipe stuck 1/2 half way in cooking chamber. cooking chamber is 1/4" and fire box is 3/16" pipe between the two is 6"x 1/2" thick so my fire box is 11" away from my cooking chamber.will try to add photos soon. cooking chamber chamber is a real old  pipe that i saved from rusting away.

that was the fire box.this is the cooking chamber. will the 6" pipe between the two be too small?

the pipe will go half way into 22" cooking chamber.

Looking pretty cool Superglide. I'm not the best one to help you out, but if you look under Forums at the top of the page, scroll down to smoking supplies and equipment and click on that, there is a Forum specifically for smoker builds. Or you can try the following link:

Once there you can click on a thread and see on the upper left "start a new thread" title yours something like "need help, offset vertical smoker" and post your pictures with questions. One of the more experienced fabricators will help you out. Since this thread you started is under roll call unless one of those guys caught it you may have a hard time getting a knowledgeable response. No offense towards Stolps, he may know in which case you may be good!

If for some reason that new thread doesn't get a response, let me know and I'll try to find some help for you!
