I came across this forum when I was searching the internet for some build threads on some offset smokers.  There are some really great ideas on here from some really solid dudes that know how to fabricate.  I have learned a lot and am going to tackle my own offset smoker in the coming weeks.

I currently have a Weber Smokey Mountain (18.5") that my wife gave me for Father's Day earlier this year.  It is the gift that keeps on giving.  I love it and have cooked numerous types of meat on it.  From St. Louis ribs, baby backs, pork butt, chuck roast, chicken, sausage, etc., I have definitely gotten some use out of it.  I love the chilled, laid back nature of slow cooking meat.  It is therapeutic for me.

I am stepping my game up to a 20" diameter offset smoker.  I used the thread on the forum to determine the sizes of the cooking chamber, firebox, chimney, etc.  It was a little confusing at first, but I managed to work my way through it.  I created an Excel spreadsheet that will automatically calculate all of the dimensions of a round cooking chamber to round firebox offset smoker.  I can't wait to start the process.  I am currently drawing out templates for all of the various pieces of the smoker.  Can't wait to start my first weld.

I live in Southern California in Orange County.  I don't meet too many people that are into the smoking deal, so forums like this are great for picking the brains of accomplished veterans.  I look forward to getting involved with some of the discussions and hope that sometime in the near future I will have something to offer.  I will start a thread for my build as soon as I get it under way.
