Seems natural, right?  Of course right.  My name is Chris.  My handle is of course, car related.  Between the car, bikes and shootin', why do I need another hobby that requires hours of sitting around tending the fire?  Did you miss the thread title?  LOL.

I've hit just about every BBQ joint around KC.  Have some friends that have dabbled here and there with a BGE or other smokers.  I work with a guy that's been all over the country doing BBQ competitions.  So, the temptation was too great to see if I could produce anything edible myself.

Hadn't used my gas grill in over 2 years.  Just been cooking hamburgers on a Foreman grill in the kitchen.  But last summer, I picked up a Weber Jumbo Joe.  Done 4 or 5 slabs, 2 pork shoulders and a flat.  Some sausage too.  And yes, even hamburgers and hotdogs on it.  Been really happy with it.  But I wanted to do something bigger.

I've watched Aaron Franklin's videos enough times, I almost have the dialogue memorized.  Looks easy too.  I could imagine what his brisket tastes like just by watching the computer monitor.  We have some good bbq here in KC.  But nobody has brisket like his.  I took a trip down to Texas in December for a wedding.  We altered our googlemapping to take us by Louie Mueller's and Franklin's.  Holy cow where they good!  I'd go on about Franklin's, but hey, we all know how wonderful that stuff tastes, right?  While down there, long story, but we picked up an Oklahoma Joe's Highland from wallyworld and hauled it home.  I'd been reading and reading up on the mods from this forum as well as elsewhere in cyberspace.  I had a plan.

I'm working on some vids for youtube.  Have a couple on there already.  Search my username if you're interested.  Anxious for the weather to get better so I'm not out in 20 degrees chasing consistency, LOL.  But I wanted to stop by here and say thanks so far, for the info I've found here.  Hope to be able to contribute the same back.

Chris

Oh, and the one flat I've done on the Oklahoma Joe's?????  Mmmmmmmm...almost like being back in TX.
