I hear you, Not going to be the coolest or best looking house, but should make a good one if I can get it out of my head and built.

My goal for using things I have and pallets that was FREE is to see how cheap I can build a good working smokehouse.

When I'm done and it works, maybe it will motivate others that cant afford to go buy lumber from a store.

Looks like you and your shadow are off to a great start! I agree with Dave that black stove pipe would be better than dryer duct, and PVC is not an option. I'd look around for a good chunk of steel pipe. I've found short chunks just walking the desert around here.

For hot smokes you certainly can add a heat source right in your cook chamber. For the size you have it probably would take a propane burner. So you'd need to make sure there was some sort of fire proofing down low where the burner would be.

The size is 70" tall x 40" wide & 30" deep. I would think the firebox size would be ok for cold smoking since it has to be done at so low temps. When I decide to hot smoke I can use a heat source inside the smokehouse. If I'm  wrong, please let me know.

For cold smoking, you don't need a fire, or firebox.... One of Todd's AMNTS, tube smoker will work just fine...

Ok fellow smokers, here we go. I have attached the boards on the back of my pallet smokehouse. First let me say it is tough breaking down pallets. About the time you almost get one off the board breaks. If you can find pallets that are put together with screws that would be a lot easier. Also, because the boards are rough cut it leaves gaps in between them. After I'm done I'm going to use some grout I had left over from a fireplace job I just did in my house. I'm also  going to line the inside with aluminum foil. I also will be putting 2 vents in the house and a smoke stack. Anyway here is it so far.

Don't grout the gaps and don't put foil on the inside..... And don't put exhaust stacks on the smoke house..... The way it is now, is the way smoke houses have been built forever.... They breathe well.... moisture escapes.... and no condensate will drip on your food from the exhaust stacks....

It looks perfect to me.....

Your smokehouse is very similar in size to mine. I have a propane burner inside mine that i dont begin to touch how much BTU it will put out, and mine will get well over 300 with no issues.

Alright  fellow smokers here it is. This is all I could get done today. If it wasn't for Shadow, I probably wouldn't have got this far. He held all the boards while I screwed them on. Anyway, what does everyone think so far?

Shadow is a big help. Here he is using his little wheel barrel to pick up all the cutoffs that we will be using as firewood at our deer camp in East Texas come November 1st.

I have broke down a ton of pallets for projects. Sawzall with a demo blade is the easiest method. You can punch out the nail heads if you like. Most the pallets I deal with are held together with ring shank nails that are a major pain in the arse to pull!

The more I look at this the more I like it. I have a pallet manufacturer just down the road. I may have to see what I can find there for my next one.

I agree, that is the hardest part. My sides are shorter than the boards i'm using so I am going to cut the ends and drill out the nail heads in the middle. Should get easier now.

Well looks like there want be any Smokehouse building done today. It's coming a flood here in good old Southeast Texas. Really want to get her up and smoking. Got a archery deer hunt next week in West Texas. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Weather is gone, time to get back on the house. Shadow and I will post you all a new pick later this evening. Sorry for the delay. Rain and electric tools don't mix.

New pick of the "Best little smokehouse in Texas" I don't know how much if any that will get done in the coming week. Leaving Sunday to go on my Archery hunt in West Texas. If I can get more done before then I will post again. Getting excited. It is coming out better than I expected.
