Monsanto paid BIG $$$ in Lobby money to get the patent laws changed so their GMO Corn and other products are their exclusive property. There was an interesting story on, I believe, seeds grown for Canola Oil. One farm that used generations old saved seed was surrounded by farms that used Monsanto seed. After 1 season of cross pollination from wind blown pollen and the local Bees, the Farmers seed now contained Monsanto genes. So that farmer had to destroy his seed stock for next year or be sued by Monsanto for patent infringement...That is just not right!!!...JJ

I like the idea of counter suing for contaminating your crops with their GMO pollen.  Of course who can afford to fight big Agri.

That is just crazy to have seeds that your family and you have had for generations. To have it destroyed GOM pollen, would be hart breaking

I do not think its worth it..Besides feed cost and the time and mess the meat was not that tender...I will just buy mine thank you...But you need to do it once to get it out of your system...

The new problem is Monsanto going after non GMO farmers. Non-GMO farmer plants his seeds that he saved from last years crop. Seeds grow into mature plants. Mature plants begin to flower, bees that just collected pollen from the GMO crop on a separately owned farm now fly to the non-GMO farm next door and pollinate non-GMO plants with GMO pollen. Farmer harvests crop and saves some seed for next years planting. The next year after the saved seeds have be planted, nurtured and become fully grown Monsanto goons show up at non-GMO farm and collect samples of new crop, if ANY GMO genes are found in the non-GMO crop they now sue(extort) the non-GMO farmer for growing crops laced with PATENTED GMO genes. He now has the choice to destroy the crop at HIS EXPENSE or payoff Monsanto for a percentage of his profits and his agreement to purchase Monsanto GMO products for his farm.

Completely criminal yet former Monsanto lawyers and executives have now infiltrated and work in the Federal Government so they(Monsanto) have become untouchable.

That's how I started raising chickens for eggs. My neighbor was raised on a chicken farm in Santa Cruz, CA. I kept asking questions about raising chickens till he told me to build a coop and he would bring me some chickens. That was three years ago. He asked me if I had gotten it out of my system yet? I said yes, but  now three families rely on me for their egg needs.

Roller what type of pig did you have. There are a few reasons why I think your meat wasn't tender.was it a boar or a borrow when the animal was being slaughtered was it under any stress and how old was it when had it slaughtered.Did you age your meat be for you packaged it.Letting your meat age properly will help release some of the stress hormones and will help tenderize your meat

Most were white some were red...when they got 250lbs took them to the local slaughter house for cut and rap ...they were males that had been cut..feed them Hog pellets and finished on corn...

Than I don't know why they turned out that way, but you are right I have been want to raise a couple of hogs for 6 years now.I just want to taste something home grown.

Then I say go for it...I have raised alot of animals for eating in my life and most have come out pretty good..
