Granma Bertha Snible's green tomatoe pie.
peel about six or eight large green tomatoes, sliced in thin pieces and put in a bowl.
Add 2 tbsp. of lemon juice,
1/4 teaspoon vinegar,
dash of cloves,
3/4 cup sugar,
2 tbsp. tapioca,
three-quarters teaspoon cinnamon,
1/4 teaspoon salt,
one eighth teaspoon nutmeg,
let this mixture sit a while. It will make its own juice and making it easier to mix the spices evenly.
Put the whole thing in the pie shell. DO NOT Drain the juice! Put 2 tbsp. butter over the top of the tomatoes and cover with the top pie crust and seal. Make a few cuts in the top crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 60 minutes.
