I am considering a Char Broil 365 to modify

I am considering buying a Char Broil 365 to modify. I am cosnsidering adding insulated panels to outside wall, as well as larger charcoal pan. Can anyone offer suggestions comments to this plan? Can anyone comment on the quality durability of this unit. This would be my first smoker for starters. Cannot afford expensive unit.
