Hello all! I have been lurking around this site for a few days now and I am very impressed and very eager to learn.

My name is Benjamin, im 22.

I go to school at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale my study is Aviation management. I graduate in 4 weeks. And am starting my masters in public administration.

As for equipment I have nothing right now. I plan on getting a simple vertical electric smoker as I am still living in an apartment.

I grew up on a farm in central IL and I have been around great beef and pork my whole life so I feel I have a good appreciation for some darn good meat. Recently my dads friend just bought a nice smoker and brought over a brisket he did and I think I could have eaten the whole thing. Anyway im hooked.

Iv baked a few things like bacon role "fatties" and such but I want to take it to the next level with the smoker. So i here to learn I always do my best on forums and use searches as much as I can but Im ready to have the smoking knowledge poured on!

Ben

Yeah iv already got a small laundry list of things to do. Now being a college kid im going to have to start making a little saving just for this! Between this and brewing Im going to be busy.

Thanks for the welcome

Welcome Ben. You picked the greatest smoking site on the net. Nothing but good folks, plenty of info and delicious Qviews.
It's always great to search for an answer, you may discover something you didn't know you were looking for, but sometimes you just need to ask, so please do. Everyone on here is willing to help you achieve the perfect thin blue smoke...

Thanks I like my hobbies also. But thats just on the food side. Things with wheels make my heart truly melt. I have 4 vehicles right now. And obviously im into planes, expensive hobbies.

I need to find just the right smoker for me, still a little lost on which way to go after all my reading.

So any recommendations on a smaller electric vertical smoker that has temp controls and is priced reasonable?

I was first looking at getting a little brinkmann but I herd a lot of mixed reviews about temps ranging from 200-300 from unit to unit. And I think I would like something that has temp control. But as I said I am going to be working from my apartment so it can't be HUGE. But I would also like something with a few racks.

I pondered the idea of propane, but im not sure I want to screw with refilling propane. Something easy to keep at a steady temp.

Looking at this guy
