There is nothing like pancakes cooked over a campfire. As it is near 0°F outside, time to improvise.

Normally my wife makes the pancakes, this morning she asked me to make them.

To differentiate mine from hers, I thought a shot of smoke would add that touch of campfire to them.

Ingredients include huckleberry's, pancake mix, syrup, water and alder chips.

Adding smoke to the mix then letting it rest for a few minutes.

On the griddle

On the plate.  The result was a slight smoke flavor, just like it was cooked over a campfire.

Ah, man...I knew I shouldn't have looked!!! Now I gotta find something to eat...like...yeah, pancakes...for a bed-time snack. One of these days I'm going to break-down and grab a smoke-pistol.

Thanks for sharing, Tom!!!

As I've stated before, having a handheld is like having a spoon in your table setting, they sure are handy at times.

You can get what appears to be a pretty decent one for around $40 now.  One of the handiest tools I have in the kitchen.  They sure are a blast.

Your welcome,

Tom

My wife would kill me if I did that!

Hello Houston, there appears to be a problem in mission control.

After spending hours reviewing Montana case law, I could not find any evidence that considers killing someone a justifiable homicide for smoking pancake batter. Perhaps the laws are different where you live.

She is very protective of her pancakes, she would just go with temporary insanity plea and get away with it!

I completely understand.  My wife's eyebrows went up when it was suggested we (heavy emphasis on we) give it a try. We will be doing it again. The light smoke that Alder provided was spot on. A stronger wood would have ruined them.
