Hi Ben!

Welcome to SMF!

When I first started I used an LP smoker that I bought at Lowes.

It was cake to use and I had some great smokes on it.

I've since moved to the WSM which I have yet to use but from everything else I've read, they are a dream to use.

It really depends on what you want to do.

Wait for others who have had charcoal, electric, LP and stick burners to reply and see what you think you can handle to start with.

I used my Weber 18.5" kettle grill to smoke some fantastic ribs a few weeks ago so you don't need a big fancy rig to make awesome Q!

Welcome to the best meat smoking forum on the internet.

I love my MES30, but I would rather have the MES40.

Say Hi to Little Joe, Hoss, Adam, and Candy.

Hello Ben, and welcome to the SMF. If you have any questions, feel free to ask our friendly members. I know you'll get a lot of feedback on choosing a smoker, but still do some research. It's all good my friend.

Welcome to the SMF Ben! You know, asking a large group like this what's the best smoker will yield almost as many responses as active members!

Seriously though, many other questions need to be answered first. Questions like;

1. How many will you be cooking for on average (along with how big of an eater each member is)?

2. How much will you smoke at one time?

3. Do you host many large parties?

4. Do you want to leave your ribs whole or do you mind cutting them to fit?

5. What fuel type do you think you'll like best (or, how much tending do you want to do with your smoker)?

Answer those questions and we'll certainly be able to help you with your selection.

Yeah, what Mr. Mac said. . .

If we knew what kind of a budget you're working with; the fuel source you whant to use; and the size of group that you plan on cooking for we could better answer your questions.

Prices can range from $40-$50 and go up to several thousand.

BTW-welcome to SMF!!
