I am 39 yrs old, been learning the art of smoking for close to 16 yrs now. Mainly trial and error, hear say from buddies ETC. I mainly use Mesquite as my preferred smoke. I use a side fire box smoker from a box store. Working on a different style smoker than what I have seen available....my 2nd hobby is welding/fabbing.
I mainly cook beef, chicken, pork, wild pork and fish. Venture off into Venison, Dove, Quail now and then.
Looking forward to be active here, I am very interested in sides and fruits.veggies on the grill too.
BTW... I am near Corpus Christi, Tx.

Thanks TH for the welcome.........whats qview? I need to get up on all the shorthand around here. Thx

Welcome to the SMF! Sometimes the smoke goes to our heads and we just cook until we drop; but then get up and eat it all and start all over! Post as many pics as you can, it makes the posts so much more interesting, plus we all love to drool!
I'm in Fort Worth. Did you get thru the storm ok?

Thanks everyone for the welcome. POPS6927, thanks for asking on the storm part. Only thing we got down here was some high tides, no wind, no rain. I did have my 2 BBQ pits loaded on trailer to go though

, just in case! Those folks Houston and east got it bad.

Welcome to SMF Salt! Don't forget that there ARE other woods... heh. Sorry mesquite is a bit strong for me. But I hear it's big in Texas. Like eveything else LOL! Enjoy!

I agree Richtee on using other woods, mesquite is just what I have on hand and cost effective for me...free minus labor to cut and bring home.. I have been reading up on other woods for smoking. Just need to broadin my horizens so to speak. Apple,Cherry and Pecan among others peak my interest. I've actually learned alot on the different woods used in smoking here in 1 week of browsing the site. I have used Oak, which is OK. I love Hickory, wife not to fond of it.....McDonalds night for her

.

Richtee, the only Apple I can get here is the small chips...like you would use on charcoal for smoke. If you have larger chunks/logs sign me up.
I am not much of a charcoal user...firm believer in WOOD. Shoot me a PM so we can discuss shipping and cost. I am interested. thanks

Prolly cannot supply "wood". Not worth the shipping to send logs. Chunks is about it as far as practicality of shipping... now..it yer up this way with a truck..gimme notice!

Maybe consider a charcoal "li'l rig" to do these 'seasoned" smokes? You din't mention what your pit was, but I gotta assume a stickburner of some sort.

Well hello there one from the Lone Star state, and welcome to the best smokin' site on Mother Earth, SMF that is.
