    Hello all,

    I'm a transplanted American from Colorado to the UK. There isn't much BBQ here so I brought my Traeger lil tex along with me and have the pellets shipped from the states. I've been hot smoking with my Traeger for about two years now. Bacon, pulled pork, brisket, basically anything I can get at the commissary i'll smoke. I've been doing bacon for about a year now, but only hot smoking (internal temp to 152). I do make fesh sausages and hamburger. Meat on the economy is very expensive, whereas I can get pork belly at about $1.50/lb at the commissary. Thanks for setting this forum up and I'm happy to join ya'll.

    Hi Mike - Welcome. There are a few of us here from the UK and the forum actually has a group where we post specifically UK related smoking discussions.

    We do have another UK based renegade from the USA who contributes regularly and who moderates the UK group. Danny is originally from Texas and so we make a lot of allowances for his strange ways [​IMG]. Now Colorado is a much more civilised place...

    Contrary to your initial thoughts I think that you may find more BBQ related products available here than you anticipate. I too use a fair amount of pellets and they are readily sourced in bulk from UK distributors.

    Sometimes the prices of US online goods can initially seem less expensive than buying in the UK however (unless you have some tax free/efficient method for buying e.g. US PX) then by the time you have paid taxes and shipping it is often just as cheap buying the items locally.

    Some things are different though. The cuts of meat here vary from what you are used to in the USA and it is important to make friends with a good local butcher. Measures differ too - although cups and spoon measures are the same, the UK pint is about 25% larger than the US pint (US pint = 16 fl ozs whereas the UK pint = 20 fl ozs).

  5. Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
    About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
    and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
    We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
    Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
    because their are so many different ways to make great Q...

    Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it. Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with there opinion on the subject.

    Thanks gents, I appreciate the warm welcome! I will be reading the UK forum!

    Wade, I contacted traeger directly about getting pellets here and I would have had to go through their Australian branch to do so. Fortunately I can get them through Amazon via my APO box for about $30 per bag. Cheapest I can get them.

    Traeger says that using pellets other than theirs voids the warranty. If you have a line on their pellets cheaper than that please let me know.

    Hmm - It sounds as if they use the same marketing guys as Apple! I don't have a Traeger so I cannot really comment on that.

    I usually buy mine from American BBQ  at ~£16-£18 for a 20 pound bag.
