Hi all,

Just got on this forum looking for some tips and tricks on starting out in smoking.

A coworker of mine got me introduced to doing this , and found me a great deal on a large Big Green Egg in our local online classifieds.

Wanted a smoker for years but never got around to it. Getting the Big Green Egg has me going and I ambitiously did a smoked turkey on Thanksgiving for my first smoke after watching several YouTube videos on green egg cooking. Turkey came out OK but I was chasing temperatures through the whole cook.

Got some tips from my coworker and my second smoke was some St. Louise style ribs. Still chasing temps but not as bad as with the turkey. Found out settings for 225 to 250 on the egg.

Anyways I am noe into this and just bought a remote temperature probe a 732. So going to try some more ribs and hopefully getting a better handle on temperatures.

Looking forward to some learning here on the forums.

mikelleen,
Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

Hang in there you will figure out the temp on your egg.

Always remember the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask!!
Keep Smokin!!!

Thanks guys!

Just found prime rib roast on sale at a local store for Christmas. Bought a 9 lb roast and am going to smoke it for Christmas!

Trying another set of ribs today just to make sure I have temperatures right before doing the prime rib roast.

Thanks again for the welcome!
