Right now, Masterbuilt is having problems with their Electronic Smokehouse that was on sale at Bass Pro for $130. The unit works great, but when it is cold outside, like below 40F, the control unit is giving an error code EAAF and it wont turn on the element. To get around this, the thermocouple sticking out of the back wall, INSIDE the unit needs to be warmed up with a rag soaked in hot water. Once the probe reads a temp somewhere in the 40F range, the element kicks on and gets the smoker warmed right up.

Mine works below 40' but I raed where some people use a hair dryer to heat the controller.

Or you could chuck in a chimney full of lit coals...It works every time!

A lot of people disconnect the control box and take it inside when it's cold out. Then hook it up and go while it's still warm. That seems to solve the problem.

I have been wheeling it inside, turning it on and when it starts to get warm wheeling it back outside. I will try the hairdryer trick ron thanks.

There could be some issues with repeated disconnecting the control box. MB's level of electrical quality leaves much to be desired.

I bet if you fill your water pan with boiling water it would warm the sensor up real fast. I've done that for many long smokes to act as a heat sink.
