I saw a similar post yesterday, but can't find it today.

I'm smoking pork butts for Labor Day and will be feeding 11 adults and 4 kids. At least 1 of the adults is a big eater.

How much (weight-wise) should I fix? Will a 7 pound butt be enough?

Figure on about 50% of the raw weight. It may yield a bit more but 50% is what most use as a standard. Caterer's figure 1/4 lb per person of course they are there to make money they also figure one sandwich per person. Personally I figure 1/2 lb per person and know I will have enough and maybe have some leftover.

I would say 2 - 8# butts that would be about 8# cooked, it is far better to have too much than not enough..

LOL Jerry, you usually have enough leftovers to feed Sherman's army.

two 7-8 pounders should be plenty. Leftover pulled pork is never a bad thing.

I'm with everyone else a couple of 7-8 pounders should do you just fine.

A 7 lb. butt won't be enough, so double that amount. I'm sure someone will be asking for a doggie bag.
