title says it all.  I like spray painting and want to do more than one color Drum, but I am trying to figure out how much I need to buy.  So how may cans of spray paint did it take to paint the Drum?

also what type did you use, and did you use primer or not.......Generally I would use primer, but in this case I am thinking of skipping it......

On my first one, I used 3 cans of the flat black BBQ high temp stuff.

On the 2nd UDS, I used the cheapest glossy blue wal mart has. Not only has it held up just as well as the black high-temp bbq paint, it looks better as well as cleans easier because of the gloss finish.

Remember that the outside of your drum doesn't get hot enough to burn off the paint.

The only paint I have had that came off was some paint that went over the porcelain enameled lid. Either the weather got to it, or the rising heat made it peel back from the porcelain

thanks for all the help.  If I wasn't picky I would jsut go all black, but I like a little flash so I think the top is going to be royal blue with yellow and orange flames coming up from the bottom....

I use 1 can of primer and two cans of paint.  Agree if can be any paint as long as you dont try to grill over 400.
