my neighbor gave me an old 256 gallon oil furnace tank conversion to smoker last spring.
it is my only expirience with smoking food and let me tell you I"m hooked....
this unit is nothing fancy and way too big for me and my wife to put on for small meals....
eventualy I'd like to tweak it so it works smoother...but in the meantime I plan on building a second smoker that will be much smaller for stuff like 3-4 racks of ribs or 2-3 chickens..no need for those huge grates....
so I have a friend who has half a dozen old 25 gallon 100 pound propane bottles...
was thinking of converting one to a smaller smoker....
was thinking of doing an external firbox with a 30 pound propane tank and use the 100 pound for the cooking chamber....
the diameter of the cooking tank is 15 inch....
would i be better off doing a vertical tank or a horizontal tank???
i feel as if a vertical would be better but i worry that I'd not be able to put a full rack of ribs on such a small grate being only 15 inches.....
tried searching the forums..but only got really big smokers....
any advice would greatly be appreciated...or if anyone has any questions...i can try to answer...as i said before..I"m very new to all this.
