    Hi to all
I joined this forum about a week ago and have received Jeff's course.
I am an Englishman , married to a Texan, that moved to the USA 28 years ago, lived in Scottsdale AZ and a year ago retired to San Carlos, Sonora.
San Carlos is a small drinking town with a fishing problem. It is located about halfway down the Sea of Cortez on the mainland side.. It is primarily a tourist town that specializes in sport fishing for Tuna, Marlin, Sail fish, grouper, sea bass, yellowtail etc. We have a LOT of fresh fish. A few months ago I found myself with 40 lbs of fresh Yellowfin tuna(probably worth $500.00 US prices)and mahi mahi and gave most of it away. Now you will understand my interest in smoking.
I have a Charbroil gas grill with a Smoke Daddy attached. I am in the process of collecting parts to convert a dead washing machine into a smoker. Has anyone done this? any tips would be helpful.
Thanks for all the great posts.

Welcome to the SMF family SanCarlos. Some of the fabricators and bbq engineers should be able to give you some pointers on how to convert that old washing machine into a smoker. How are you planning to fire it up? Charcoal, wood, propane, electricity? I hope that the unit isn't galvanized. I know that the temps used for smoking are low but I wouldn't take the risk of using galvanized metal for any cooking application.

    Enjoy the site!

Welcome from the Midwestern part of the United States. Damn shame having so much fresh fish you've got to give it away.

I don't know anything about your conversion, but just wanted to welcome you to the SMF. Be sure to share some picts of your smoke and all the fresh fish. Us landlocked folks always love a nice picture of a tropical paradise once in a while too.

Don't know anything about making a smoker out of a washing machine, but if ya can use a cardboard box to do it ,, then a washin machine aught to be doable...

First off welcome to SMF. Your gonna like it here cause there are alot of good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smokin. Next I think you should look up the E-course it's free and very informative and it will show you the basics of smoking. It looks like you want to know how to smoke fish it's easy you can brine them in a salt and spices for awhile then throw it in the smoker I like alder or apple woods. So go fishing and caught something for smoking.

Welcome to the SMF, San Carlos. Let me help you with a few pics. See if you recognize any of these.

These were taken in January of 2007. Recognize the island? My friend's boat. He's got a nice yellowtail on.
