Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer, I'm in Santa Fe NM, and I'm new to this forum. I've been a dedicated WSM fan for the past few years and just dug deep for a Yoder YS640 pellet smoker. My new baby is being delivered tomorrow. I've had sleepless nights wondering where I should put it and how to keep critters away from it (stand guard with my shotgun?).

Of course, I should be planning my first cook and not worrying about silly stuff, but you know how ladies are about rodents.  I have a lot to learn I've never used a pellet smoker so I'll sure appreciate advice from the experts on the forum!

Welcome to SMF!

There are plenty of folks on here with pellet smokers to help you when you need it!

Welcome from SC, Jenn. It's really good to have you here on this great site. Congrats on the new smoker. I would think if you kept all of the vents closed up between cooks, there wouldn't be any critter problems. The squirrels love to play on my stick burner, but there's no way for them to get in.

Good luck and good smoking, Joe. :grilling_smilie:

Thanks for the welcome, guys and I'll definitely keep those vents closed, Joe.
I'm so excited - look what just arrived on my porch - fresh off the pallet!!  I haven't put it together yet, so I'll add a beauty shot once I have all the shelves and parts in place.

Thanks Warren, I will definitely post pics. I'll be doing my burn-off today and planning my first cook for next week!

Thanks, Ray. They came out better than I expected. I'm already planning the pork butts for this weekend!
