They say the best way to start is to admit your addiction. My wife actually started my habit. She bought me a 18 inch Camp Chef Smoke Vault. My habit is so new I have only tried to use it once. And like "OTHER things when I was younger." I tried it. Wasn't sure I was doing it right. And like a first time smoker I got paranoid and didn't do it again for a while. So I need to seek professional advise on how to Smoke Correctly. I added what it said to add for chunks and it only smoked for a short time. Is it supposed to smoke for the entire time or just for the first part of the cooking process.

I live in Colorado Springs and am off on Thur, Fri, Sat if anyone would like to have a Brew and smoke something.

Hello Mike & Welcome to SMF. You will recieve your first "Wood Smoked" chip after 30 days. Have fun & enjoy your stay here with us. To answer your question, if your wood placement is as close to your fuel as possible, you will achieve the smoke essence as opposed to the burning that normally occurs when wood is placed in direct contact with a heat source. More pieces should be added to continue the process throughout the smoking event. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to roam the forums & ask those all important questions as they come up.

Welcome, Mike!!! Yep, the first step is admitting you have smoking problem...just can't get enough of it, right? One caution regarding your addiction: don't look here for help to stop it...you'll never be able to get help to stop it...nothing can stop it! When I die, I want to be cremated in my smoker...LOLOL!!!

You'll get all kinds of help in getting a fix, though. Don't worry about first smokes. This is a craft, a form of art, if you will. Practice makes perfect, sort of. If you really enjoy eating good Q often, you'll find a place in you heart where you can make it all come together.

As you begin to get curious about different things, you'll start putting together a picture of what you want to try next...just let it happen, and don't be shy about questions.

Enjoy the forums, and again, welcome!

Eric
