Hi all you pit masters. Glad I found this site not much info here in OZ. Found some plans to build a smoke house. Can't buy them here - seems no one make them. Don't know if I should go propane or electric ( fire is not an option ). I'm sure there is an opinion or three on that one.

Welcome to SMF, dingo! I'm pretty new to this stuff, but there will be plenty of folks along in a bit who can help you in choosing a smoker that fits what you need. Feel free to ask for whatever help you need. Everyone around her is willing to help if they can. Glad to have you with us.

Welcome to the SMF, where it all goes up in smoke... good smoke that is. I do wish you the best of luck mate, a homemade smoke house is something to be mighty proud of... no matter where you live.

I'm new here too. Can't help you too much on your smoker decision yet but I am sure there are some here who can. Welcome

Dingo:

Great to have you on board.

If you are like most of us, it won't be long until you have one of each. I started with a little electric because I wanted low temps for fish, shellfish and other seafood. Never thought of meat in those days. eventually I added propane. Others have done the same. and, still others have done the opposite, started with propane and added something else for cold smoke or low temps.

No rights and no wrongs, really. but you are right, you WILL get a lot of opinions.

Me. . . . I'm staying out of it!!

No matter what you choose, you have come to the right site.

Have fun.

Welcome Dingo -

Nice to see another Aussie - it's been awhile. I would think the option of propane or electric would also be based on the size of the smokehouse.

Dingo,welcome Dawg!!!!!!
the size of the smokehouse is important as to your decision of electric or propane, come up with a size and i'm sure you will get the answers you need to build your project.

Good to see another sign on from down under.

I think the Propane is more variable with the temps & if the smokehouse is big it can produce more heat than the elec. but that is just my opinion as I don't have an electric.

Welcome to SMF from Canada dingo!

One of my co-worker's nickname is Mad Dog ... which is often shortened to either Dawg or Dingo!

Glad you are with us ... enjoy!
