Hi all you pit masters. Glad I found this site not much info here in OZ. Found some plans to build a smoke house. Can't buy them here - seems no one make them. Don't know if I should go propane or electric ( fire is not an option ). I'm sure there is an opinion or three on that one.

Great to have you on board.

If you are like most of us, it won't be long until you have one of each. I started with a little electric because I wanted low temps for fish, shellfish and other seafood. Never thought of meat in those days. eventually I added propane. Others have done the same. and, still others have done the opposite, started with propane and added something else for cold smoke or low temps.

No rights and no wrongs, really. but you are right, you WILL get a lot of opinions.

Me. . . . I'm staying out of it!! [IMG]

No matter what you choose, you have come to the right site.

    Have fun.

    Welcome Dingo -

Nice to see another Aussie - it's been awhile. I would think the option of propane or electric would also be based on the size of the smokehouse.

Good to see another sign on from down under.

I think the Propane is more variable with the temps & if the smokehouse is big it can produce more heat than the elec. but that is just my opinion as I don't have an electric.

Hia Dingo! welcome to SMF! Either unit will work just fine. just get one and pay attention to the quirks and caveats for the model here. Someone here owns what you have, or if ya build, we can figger it out. Here's a little phototour of the one I have under construction, ASK AWAY!
