Hi everyone,

My name's Leon and I live in Australia. I've recently bought a MES gen 2 40" smoker, and have been reading many of the threads here at smoking meat forums on getting on the AMNPS 5x8 to work in the gen 2 MES.

I too have been having issues with keeping the the AMNPS lit, and have been looking at some of the modifications people have been making to their smokers to increase airflow. Unfortunately, I have discovered that getting 3inch galvanised elbows in Australia is apparently ridiculously difficult unless you want to spend an insane amount of money.

For example, I have found that one of the major hardware stores here sells a 4inch elbow for a reasonable $10, but no 3inch version. The only 3inch version I can seem to find in Australia is from this site, where it costs a ridiculous $37.20 plus $10 postage.

I was also looking into a mailbox mod set up, but have run into the same sort of issues. Apparently nobody likes to use 3inch/75mm ducting here for some reason. Has anyone had any success in using 4inch parts without significantly modifying their smoker? These smokers cost $700 over here to buy, so I'm trying to avoid both spending too much more on it, but at the same time I don't really want to have to cut any big holes into it either.

As it sits it looks like it's going to cost well over $100 to do these modifications which is a bit frustrating.

Thanks for your help :)
