Hi Everyone,

My name is Pete, just discovered the forum and all the info here - unreal! I am just getting into smoking, and deal 99% of the time with venison and other game meat, so I look forward to learning from you folks. I am a bigtime bowhunter, thus the venison focus; I just ordered a Meco electric smoker - sorry, I needed to go for the convenience over gas or charcoal.

Thanks for a great site, I am already on the 5-day course and signed up for the newsletter.

Pete

Welcome to the forum, Pete. We're glad you're here!

Deer season opened today here in Oklahoma, and here I sit suffering around the smoker. :B

I hope to head out to the woods a bit later this weekend, and can put meat in the freezer. I wish you great success!

Welcome Pistol Pete. Keep me posted on any smoking recipes you might have for venison and any kind of game, as it is a subject I"m not up to speed on and I want to offer an "open smoke" day to hunters at my restaurant. I have 4 large capacity smokers and I thought it would be cool to line em up in the parking lot and let the hunters smoke their meats in shifts or even signing on for a whole day smoke.

Think it will work? Is that something you'd go do if a local restaurant was offering you an open smoker to work with?

I look forward to seeing your future posts on this subject.

No need to apologize about what type smoker you use. The only thing that matters here is that you smoke! I personally feel that an electric smoker offers the most advantages for greater success while learning to smoke (less to worry about in the beginning).

Anywho, welcome to SMF!
