I've got three chickens and 2 more racks of back ribs that could be fodder for experimentation tomorrow. It all depends on how "torrential" the torrential downpours we're supposed to get tomorrow (the remnants of Ike) turn out to be. I'm all for smoking no matter what the weather, but if I can't keep the fire lit it creates a small problem. ;)

It was supposed to rain here all day as well (I'm not that far east of you) but it stayed just to the west of me all day long. It wasn't until after we were sitting around eating that it started to sprinkle, so no complaints.

Tomorrow is looking like a 100% chance of percip, though.

sooooo if i am to purchase a lang 48, ya'll are saying to use coal in the

firebox not wood for heat? Like i already do with my cgsp? Then why buy a wood burner?

At home I use charcoal with wood logs for smoke because I can get 3-4 hours between tending. At hunt camp we build a base with charcoal and use wood for the rest of the cook. We have an inexhaustable supply of free oak & the members are cheap. Burning wood produces a lot of heat and only mild smoke, wet smoldering wood produces lot of smoke., You won't oversmoke burning oak.The major problem is wood burns quicker and we have to tend the fire bout every hour, however theirs almost always someone at camp to tend the pit
