Unless you use a Weber lid I would get the Lever Release ring...

Take care.

that smoker already has a war story......sounds like a great beginning.

ok well my barrel is a food grade barrel but it has the red liner in it, is that bad? i have read you just have to get a real hot fire to get it out? any advise would be great?
thanks

thought i read here that is the liner.....i'm sure someone will chime in.

Yes; that is the dreaded liner. You will need to do a real hot burn out or two and then take care of what's left of the liner with a wire brush or grinder with a wire wheel.

Good luck.

My barrel had a liner, Check it out here http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/for...ad.php?t=82003

It took a couple of burns to get it out but it burned right out, no biggie. If I did it again I would drill my intake holes before I burnt the barrel, then it might of got hotter at the bottom of the barrel, some folks have used weed burners, but there is nothing better than havin' a few friends over for a bon fire!

the kicker is i think he had ones with no liner, ohh well hopefully a burn or two will get it out

Bummer, oh well, after two fires and some wire brushin' if there is any left in there it should be fine to cook in after that.
