Between baking bread and planting some beets for Bassman, I'm testing out some score from BBQ Engineer today - Rudy's rub and sauce.

The name cracks me up - those of you with kids/grandkids, if you haven't watched Ice Age III, go gotta do it.

I'm thinking if Buck BBQ'ed, he'd be using this sauce!

Rubbed down and in the smoker now - a spare and a baby back. Going to do the 2-2-1 on these bad boys.

Thanks, DANA! I sampled enough of the rub to know it's good. Can't wait to crack the seal on the sauce.

Yes we have grandkids (10) and we know Ice Age very well so I can feel ya. But those ribs look like they will be just fine with the older folks.

that is one crazy weasel!

Here we are at the 2 hour mark - pulled, sloshed with a little OJ... didn't have any apple... and stuck'em back in.
The color (and smell) is awesome! I really like the big pepper kernals, and whatever else is in there.

I know these are just plain o'l ribs, but I'm so jazzed at trying this new rub and sauce - I'm always open minded and willing to try just about anything - when it's good, that's just a bonus!

I was just wondering what I'm having for dinner tonight!

They're great, but my family loves the Sissy Sause more than the regular. It's okay, it just means more of the regular Rudy's Sause for me when my supply gets here, next week.

Sure! I use a lot of OJ on pork, and actually prefer it to apple, although I've been using apple more since I've been on here. You get the same "sweet", but the citric acid is a natural tenderizer so everything comes out good and tender. I did these 2-2-1, and could have gotten by with 2-1-1, as I like to still bite the meat off the bone. I think the OJ helps with that.

Everyone else - Thanks!

Here's where we ended up. The baby backs snagged on something from the smoker to the house...

Did these naked to get the full taste of the rub and sauce.

Thanks for checking out my Rudy rub and sauce test. Rudy's is exquisite - a good strong cracked black pepper corn, with just the right amount of heat, sweet, and salt.

And my supper

I have now tested out my two new favorite BBQ sauces - Rudy's and Salt Lick. It was a close tie, but in the end, I like the sauced ribs the best:lol:
