I am just saying hello and have a question for you all.

First off I have a pretty good sized Oklahoma Joe smoker that came with the house when I bought it. I have smoked a turkey with it and it came out pretty good. However I want to really use some mesquite wood instead of just using charcoal and mesquite chips. Where do you all get your wood that you all smoke with? Cause I want to do it right for Thanksgiving.

Bryan

Welcome to SMF, Bryan! I can't help you with the mesquite question, but I'm sure one of the Texas folks will be along soon to give you some help. This is a great place to learn more about smoking. Looking forward to seeing your smokes. Glad to have you with us.

Welcome to the site. We live in the country and own seven farms. Hickory, maple, and oak I get on our land. The others I have been buying at home depot in bags of chunk.

Welcome to the SMF. Do some reading around, you'll find plenty of information to catch your eye. If you let us know what city you're in, we might be able to direct you to a vendor.

I live in Abilene, TX. I will do some searching around to see if I can find some more info.

In my opinion a whole log of mesquite is too much smoke....I use a hardwood log and just chips of the mesquite. I have friends in Texas that bring me whole mesquite logs, I just chip off what I need ....the logs last a long time.

welcome to SMF, from another texan- waco here. you should be able to finds lots of mesquite in west texas. look up "firewood" and also tree trimmers in your local yellow pages. also, the american classifieds (used to be thrifty nickel) has a service section where you can find them. maybe post an ad on craigslist.
