Hey im mike from akron ohio, I am employed as an air traffic controller. Well I bought a masterbuilt smoker from a box store and it broke after the first use. Now I am looking for another smoker, and am considering a cookshack electric or big green egg. I have a nice gas grill for grilling. The electric seems nice for no hassle lazy smokin, but the ceramic seems nice for versatility. What are your opinions. I will be using it mostly for smoking

Welcome to SMF tell us what happened to the Masterbuilt what's not working on it??

First off Welcome Mike to SMF. One thing good about smoking meat after of course the great food but it will be a big stess reliever too. I hear that your job is very stessful too. You'll like it here for there are alot of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. Now there are alot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you. So just just kick back and enjoy the food and you can start wondering what your new clothes are going to look like too.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Hey Mike, welcome to SMF! Sorry to hear about your smoker. I'm sure everyone has their own opinions on what style of smoker they like. Personally I am a charcoal guy. I don't have the funds for one yet, but I have been dreaming of a Big Green Egg for about a year now. So, if you have the money I would go for the Green Egg. From what I have seen they are a fairly simple charcoal burning unit. They retain heat very well so you don't need much fuel to keep your temps just where you want them, and you shouldn't need to add more fuel during your cook. Whatever you decide happy smoking!

Hey Fellow Buckeye!

Welcome - this is a great site with lots of info. I have a GOSM propane big block and love it for the "set it and forget it" kind of smoking and it turns out really good BBQ but nothing beat a Big Green Egg for quality of food it produces ( IMHO )  -  have a friend with a BGE and it really does everything great - grilling - smoking - baking  -  the pizzas that come off it are unbelieveable.

So.....if you can afford the $ for a BGE go for it!!   I'm saving my pennies of one.

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.
