Hello, I sort of stumbled onto this site accidentally while searching for sausage making supplies. I love it. Around 30 or so years ago, I built a small smoke cabinet that served me well a couple years. I had fun and enjoyed doing it. However family needs and other things pulled me away.

Around ten or so years ago some people next door left a SS steel cabinet when they moved. I talked to the property owner and he gave the unit to me. Been sitting ever since. It was a smoker in a previous life, however someone totally gutted it. No shelves or brackets. no controls, no burners. Well, this site is the push I needed to get it up and running. There is a lot of work coming, but the thought of homemade  ham and bacon will defiantly make it worthwhile.

A couple pictures of what I have to start with.

unit was propane, but I'm thinking of going to go electric.

I can't wait. looking to be spending a lot of time here.

First of all, welcome to the forum.  Great folks and great info here.  That cabinet is going to make you the star of the neighborhood.  Great potential no matter which way you want to go.  Electric is nice and easy and with a PID will make it accurate.  Auber Instruments makes a real nice programmable unit for all kinds of wattage.  Or lots of info here on how to make your own.  Is that thing insulated?  If not you may want to look into getting that done if using electric.  Best of luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Studying my options on components. I'm hoping for an easy build seeing how the cabinet started life as a gas smoker. I sprayed it with oven cleaner to remove old smoke buildup and it looks like new inside. I'll post pics as the build progresses.
