Afternoon Guys,

I finally took the plunge and joined. I've been checking out the site for the last few months gathering great tips and recipes. Since I'm up here in VT (NO, not part of NY or Canada) we are just getting into summer weather and I've been trying to smoke every weekend. I enjoy smoking whole chickens, kielbasa, and I'm just getting into ribs. Last weekend I looked around on the forum and found a great recipe for ribs and they came out great. I tried the 2-2-1 tip and I loved the way it worked, I'm going to stick with that from now on. I generally use cherry or apple wood, but just started using pecan and love it. I have a $60-$70 charcoal smoker my wife got me from Lowes a couple years ago and I think it works great. I would like something a little better but if I can make fall off the bone ribs with it I really cant justify spending the money. Anyway thanks for letting me be part of the forum and also thanks for all the great tips and recipes!

Thanks,

Shane

Hi there,

Coming from the northeast kingdom of Franklin County, I gotta say maple does a great job. Nice looking ribs and fully agree, you're getting the results you want, the only thing you need to do is start collecting a couple different types of smokers:biggrin:

When that nice fall weather starts, look into cold smoking some of that great Vermont cheddar... You're better than half way there with your equipment. Check out how on the forum here, I don't believe you'll be disappointed

Good luck

I have wanted to smoke some cheddar. I think when I do I'm going to go with Shelburne Farms cheddar, it's amazing. My mom works at cabot so I've tried almost all of their cheese and I gotta say Shelburne Farms is a million times better, if you havent tried it you should. If your ever down this way you should go to cheese traders on williston road by al's french fries. They have great deals and a ton of cheese.

Hello and welcome, I started with one just like what you have, still have one that I get out on occasion, If you are cooking for just a few people I will smoke anything the high dollar smoker will, just need a little more attention.

Hey Bad09titan,

Know it well and was at Al's French fries and the Dunkin Donuts a few weeks ago. My niece is a nurse at Fletcher-Allen. My inlaws are all around Enosburg, Swanton, Richford etc...ever go to Ray's for ice cream? Here's an ever better one...Creamee Freeze in Sheldon....a little window on the side of a house.....fantastic ice cream....so cheap it will pay for the gas to get there

I never tried Shelburne Farms...Cabot is such a big name but...now I have to try it. Thank you for the tip. Check out the cold smoking cheese area....very cool
