Hello, my name is Allen, but I go by the nickname "tamathumper" in most forums.  "Tamathumper" is an amalgam of a brand and a common term for a drummer (a tub thumper), with Tama being the brand of drums I like the most.  It also seems to be available most of the time, so I don't have too much to remember - which as any musician knows is hard for a drummer.

Originally from Maine, I now live in Upstate New York (Saratoga Springs area), and I just got a MasterBuilt 20070511 for my birthday - the electric jobby with the digital controls and meat probe.  From my Internet research so far, best case, it looks like I'll be planning to replace or upgrade the heating element in a few years - but I hope to get a lot of use out of it before then.

I go from hobby to hobby, and I tend to set up web sites for each one.  Ten years ago I was drumming and building drums, and I set up resources for electronic drums back then under tamathumper.com.  Then I moved on to woodworking, then restoring Farmall Cub tractors, and set up farmallcub.info as a resource for the community.  After that I started building CNC machines (ala joescnc.com) and set up a 2D and 3D modeling website for the community to provide projects and work materials, which I gifted over to the community when finished.  Most recently, I've been working on reviving a Porsche 968 and adding a supercharger and other go-fast bits to make it more fun, and although there's no website I've been doing what I can to help others with the same interests.  I'm also a long-time FreeMason and Shriner.

I don't know if "smoking" will become a full-fledged hobby or if it's just something I do from time to time, but I can tell already from the burn-in that I'll sure enjoy the smell.  Just having moved from the farm back into suburbia, I miss the frequent fires we used to be able to have but no longer have the room for.

All for now - I need to start searching the forums on a couple things, like whether or not I should care that there's a little smoke coming out the seal at the top of the door.  And recipes. :D

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! Would you mind updating your profile to show the other SMF members where you are located?  Might meet some neighbors!

You should sign up for Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, and it's great!  This is chock full of great information....no matter what your experience level might be!

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff in Rule #11. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Thanks for the warm (smoky) welcome, much appreciated.

I promise to search first and ask later.  I figured I was walking a fine line with those references to other sites, but it seemed safe to refer to them as entities as opposed to links.  My apologies if that was over the top.

Now, I'm off to the glossary to find out what an AMNPS is.

See you 'round!

You are totally fine with your intro!  We Mods here have to give the "rules" out so you won't get a surprise in a thread down the road.  Todd the owner is a member and sponsor here and will give you great service when you make an order. (I can give you this link because he is a paid sponsor!)
