Hi Folks,

Born and raised in northeast Oklahoma so I get the best of both worlds cooking KC and Texas style.   I have owned some sort of grill or smoker since 1984.   Currently I smoke with a firebox unit and grille on another unit (both made out of heavy duty cast iron).  I love my smoker and grill but considering treating myself to a vertical smoker box.   I am not sure if I want an electric smoker oven or a vertical smoke box with water pan.

Since I have only used charcoal and/or wood to cook with for the past 10+ years I have never experienced food cooked with an electric smoker.   I have heard mixed opinions on the loss of smoke taste using them, but I have narrowed my choices to the “Smokin-It 3D” or “Smokin Tex PRO 1400”.   As for the vertical smoke box with water pan, the better ones by Backwoods are far too expensive.   For you who have experienced cooking with varied types of smokers, what are your thoughts?

Welcome to the forum Jack!  I can't help with the smoker recommendations but I'm glad you joined us.
