    Hello everyone

My name is Danny and I'm new here, and just roaming around the forum trying to eat up as much info I can on smoking. I don't have a smoker yet but I trying find out what would be better to get a propane or charcole smoker. I will smoking alot of pork, beef, chicken and alot of wild game. I have never smoked anything but hopefully I will be guided in the right direction so I can start enjoying the art of smoking. I sighned up for the 5 day ecourse so hopefully that will give me the basics I need.

Welcome to smf! This is a great place to find info on smoking anything, there alot of knowledgeable hands here. The 5 day ecourse is packed with great info. Personally, i like my charcoal unit, but i think that you will find that both gas and charcoal have their pros and cons. Its all about personal preference. When you get smokin make sure to post qview so we can see your progress. Lookin forward to seein you around. [IMG]

Hi Danny, glad you're part of the SMF, nothing but friendly and helpful folks here. Take your time and research possible smokers. Just remember that somewhere down the line, we all switch, upgrade, aquire/adopt, another smoker. It's all good.

Welcome to SMF. Only you can decide which smoker is right for you. I basically gave up on my ECB and went with the propane. I'm just too old to learn many new tricks![IMG]

I must say it is really nice to see how helpfull and friendly you all are it makes it nice to know that everyone is here to help so much. well the only real concern I have about charcoal is how to regulate the heat within the smoker. Being a newbie the gas smoker can be controlled alot easier I just want the most flavor I can get. I don't want the gas altering the taste. Is there a page in the forum that will teach me how to regulate the temp with the charcoal if I decide to buy or build one?

Welcome aboard. I would say start simple. Learn the basics, then the upgrade will ultimately follow. Focus on great QUE!

Hi Porco! Welcome aboard. Continue your research to find what's right for you. I personally enjoy tending the fire so I went with charcoal. I anticipate goofing up once in a while but the learning process is so fun and tasty!

Living in Toronto as I in London when buying a smoker you should consider if you are going to use it in the winter. I bought an electric and it is great but no winter smoking as I cannot get the temperature up to where it should be.

Danny, Welcome to the SMF. Get or make a drum smoker for a good charcoal unit to start on. Good luck with your choice.
