Hello everyone,

I just recently stumbled upon this website/forum by accident while searching for a new smoker.  That was a couple of weeks ago. I literally read hundreds of pages on this site and it seems there is a real community here.  So I decided to join.

I have been smoking/grilling on a Weber gas grill,  doing OK,  but smoking on it is really becoming a chore.  I live in a very windy area,  close to the water without any large trees slowing the wind. It's very difficult to maintain a proper smoking temperature due to that. The wind just blows the flame out when it's set at the min.  I can make it work and have smoked some real tasty stuff, but maintaining the flame is worse than with charcoal. The BBQ is a great grill however and it's easy to sear steaks or make pizza at 750*.  I'm looking at the better electrics.  They would make a great combo in the backyard.  Which i gotta fix before I can put another piece of "junk" there.  (so says the wife).  I'm hoping by middle of summer I can go ahead and get a dedicated smoker....

Can't wait so I can make some ribs more often. They are my 4 yr old's favorite.  he calls them bones.  "Make some bones daddy"!

In the meantime I'm really enjoying reading some of the conversations on this forum.  Love the recipe ideas too.

Thanks a bunch! This seems like a real awesome place.

Thank you both for the kind words.

I signed up for the 5 day course...

and have spent a lot f hours reading before I posted.... kind of familiarizing myself with teh culture here...

BTW I can't decide if I like pork or beef ribs more.

Those ribs may not look it but were over 10 lbs! Took up half the real estate in the Q  :-)

they elicited a lot of OMG comments from our visitors.

I'm hoping a dedicated smoker will make things easier...

thanks again

Zed
