Hello everyone, my name is Matt. I live in Russell, PA in Northwest PA. I have been smoking on my Weber grill for several years. I wanted to get into smoking with a true smoker and decided to start with an electric. I got the MES 30" Gen 2.5 about a month ago and have done a couple of smokes with good results.
I used this site extensively when I was researching what to get and within the wife's budget allotment. I did run into the AMNPS on here and will getting one for added smoke and cold smoking in the fall/winter. I'm looking forward to doing pheasant this fall.
Currently, I'm doing a temperature test with the MES and the iGrill Mini and a cheap Walmart RF thermometer. So far I've found the that MES overshoots about 25°F on heat-up and then takes about 4 cycles for the PID controller to get dialed in. Thermometers have been running 3-5°F apart and about 10°F less than the MES. I will post the iGrill temp graph once I'm done with the test.
I'm looking forward to learning more and sharing when I can.
Everything is better with smoke regardless of what my wife says. Smoke On!!!
