Discovered this site through a search for ideas on how to improve my experience with my Char Griller. I've been using it for two years mainly as a grill and would build a fire opposite the stack when smoking. Worked ok for the most part but always wanted to be able to use the entire cooking surface when smoking. I've had plans to build a uds and even acquired a food grade drum but my family construction business kinda gets in the way so my awesome wife bought me the smoker box for our anniversary. I've been experimenting but have discovered the design flaws. Thanks everyone for the ideas!
