New to smoking, have already found a wealth of information here. In the process of gathering supplies to make my smoker using a WSJ Silver. Getting my pot on Thursday so I'll be ready to fabricate this weekend. I've used a Weber Q for several years and also a table top NexGrill. I live in the west metro area of the twin cities.

I do have a question for you experts out there. What's a good but reasonable priced thermometer ?

Thanks, Dave

Welcome Dave...I am a newbie here too, but have done some serious research around this forum.

After reading reviews in this forum and other sites, I went with the Maverick ET-733...it has two probes (meat & bbq) and the wireless range was quite good. Did very nicely for my first smoke last weekend.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

Good morning Dave, welcome to the forum. be sure and post lots of pictures of your new smoker and what you smoke. What type of thermometer are you leaning toward ?

Thanks for the info on the Maverick ET-733, will give it a serious look.

I've found this forum very helpful. Also signed up for Jeff's class.

Smoke On !

I've looked at several. Including the Maverick ET-7, the Cuisinart Wireless Grill Thermometer & the ET-733. I see Maverick makes several different ones. I'm going to stay away from any that runs on a single AAA battery. I plan on putting the bushing in my Mini, as I don't like the idea of having run under the cover.

Dave, putting the eyelet in the pot is the way to as these lids can be very tight fitting. I have two eyelets on mine that placed just under each rack level. I build my Mini last fall and it has been getting more use than my Lang 60 Deluxe.

And Welcome to SMF!

Enjoy the Smoke!
