Brand new to smoking, but am looking forward to the journey.  My son bought a used Brinkman horizontal smoker w/firebox on the side for me for Father's Day.  To say that it needs some TLC is a gross understatement.  In any case, I've cleaned it up and repainted the exterior, re-did the deck and am looking forward to testing it out.

Last night, I put in some charcoal briquettes and some hickory wood chips to see how it works.  I'm still trying to figure out the amount of materials to use, how to regulate the heat / smoke and just in general, how the darn thing works.  The temp was only around 100, until I added some wood chips, then it would climb to almost 200.  I'm guessing it will take me some time to figure out how to build the temp and keep it there.  It also leaks smoke around the lid of the cooking chamber quite a bit, so I'm going to figure out how to address that.

I signed up for the newsletter and ecourse, so that should help me out quite a bit I'm guessing.

Anyway, really excited about this new hobby and welcome any advice I can find.

Thanks,

MDS

Their are a lot of people with that smoker. Their are a lot of mods on here to look at. First seal up all the air leaks you can find.

Happy smoken.
