Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Matt but you probably already figued that out from my username and I live in Newark, DE. I'm brand spankin new to smokin and I've never owned a smoker or done it yet but I love eating the smokey delicious holyness of brisket and sauasage and I already love to cook/ grill.

I'm still in my researching phase of getting into smoking meats and am trying to decide weather to go gas or electric. I keep jumping back to char-coal and the Weber smoker but I really dont think I want to put in the time to manage coals or wood for fuel. It's a bit overwhelming with how many smokers are on the market and how to choose a solid beginners one that works well but doesn't break the wallet. I'd like to stay $300 or less with my budget.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll ask PLENTY of questions and I look forward to learning a lot and getting into a new level of outdoor cooking!

Where in the forum should I start posting my complete newb questions about getting started? I'm going to search for my questions first and also sign up for the eCourse but just in case I can't find the specifics I want I would like to make sure I'm asking in the right section. The question will probably pertain to basic beginner supplies, Using a Gas Grill Smoke, and then purchasing a gas smoker.

I think I want to attempt smoking on my Weber Genesis before going out and buying something.

Hi Matt.

The link you found is a good tutorial for setting up a gas grill to smoke.

For basic supplies for smoking, browse these forums:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/f/139/woods-for-smoking

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/f/129/smoking-gadgets-and-tools

If you are considering purchasing a gas smoker, browse this forum:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/f/109/propane-smokers

And you can always just post specific questions in the General Discussion forum, and everyone will pitch in and give you the answers you need.

Good luck!
