Just wanted to introduce myself.  I am new to this whole "smoking" world.  I just bought myself an electric Masterbuilt smoker, so I can't wait to see how the foods turn out.  I bought myself a couple of books of "How to Smoke" and now realized that's a waste, now that I know about this website.....it seems very informative and everyone is so enthusiastic about helping each other with "smoking" issues.....

Welcome to SMF Sandra. We have a number of MES users here so you'll find all kinds of different tips and tricks. Which MES did you get- the 30 or the 40?

Lots of great recipes are here too!

Enjoy!

I got the 30 inch.  That seems like sufficient space to do alot of cooking at the same time...

You do know that some time down the road you'll wish that had the 40-but then that will just give you an excuse to get another MES!!

HAH-HAH-HAH!!! I guess that's why I went from my little GOSM (which served me well for 5 years, and still does, btw) to acquiring the SNP 40" horizontal 21 months ago (on sale for $100.00), to my kids buying me the Smoke Vault 24" for Father's Day last spring (by this time, they knew where my interest really are), to as of late, the Brinkmann Gourmet Charcoal, again on sale (just had it's second smoke last weekend and finished the coal pan mods yesterday).

Sandra, as you mentioned, there are tons of friendly folks here who are more than willing to help anyone who asks. Books give pretty basic info and aren't really a good source of info for smoking, IMO. This forum has info from those who have been put on the spot, and had to figure out the ins and outs of their type of smoker, and/or the particular type of cut/species they were cooking. The manufacturers instructions for a smoker are pretty generic from what I've seen thus far. Just enough info to get you really confused.

Anyway, glad you found us, Sandra!

Enjoy!

Eric

First off welcome Sandra to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again
