Hi all, this is Chuck from Wheeling, WV.

So I finally took the plunge last week and bought a Masterbuilt 2 Door Dual Fuel Propane/Charcoal Smoker from Home Depot (Model #  20050412).

Took a while for the decision, but here's my thought process:
  • I liked the ability to start simple with propane and once I got the hang of that, move to charcoal
  • I liked the 2 door style to keep the heat in the top section
  • Buy local - I got an additional 2 year replacement warranty for the smoker for $25 - that's what sold me
  • The Home Depot version has 2 wheels in the back and a handle for moving it around
I have already found so many great ideas here, so I am excited to learn from everyone. The throw away drip pan is a nice one as well as covering the ash catcher with foil to keep wood chunks from becoming flaming fireballs.

First smoke was last week and it went pretty well. She holds temp well. Tomorrow is my first try at baby back ribs, so I am looking forward to it.

Chuck.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Kat
