i have a buddy that LOVES the boiled peanuts.........i have tried em.......to say the least, i will pass..........but i KNOW they have their fans out there.......but them hams look GREAT
for the peanuts i just used a bag of crab boil, cayene pepper and salt, let them boil for 2 hours take a few out to test to see if they have enough seasoning then add more if needed during the rest of the cook, they take about 4 hours
i smoked the ham with pecan wood, if you can get ahold of some, hams are awesome smoked with pecan
Hams look wonderful! I've heard of this boiled peanut thing but never have tried it or tasted any. Hear it is a love it or hate it kinda thing. Maybe some more info on how to do it and what it tastes like?
There ain't much more to tell about how to do them. Crazyhorse gave you the good info.....(make sure you use raw peanuts though). Boiled peanuts are sort of like grits in yankee land....you either like them or you don't. Sam's carries them canned....check and see if your local one has them and heat'um up and see if you like them...if so, do them yourself, better that way imho.
yea like goose said i guess boiled peanuts are more of a southern thang but they are like them lays potato chips you cant just eat one...and make sure you use green peanuts not roasted if you try to do some
I love boiled peanuts, I live in virginia and cant get them anywhere around here,, I have been known to take a trip down on I-85 in south carolina to abbott farms and get about 30.00 worth,, I can get raw peanuts sometimes down here but I have never made them that good.
Would you please not only give me the ingredients you use but the method,, I try to boil them overnight, I have heard you need to put some sort of weight on them to hold them under,, could you help me out
start with raw peanuts add water to cover
add seasoning
once they start to boil cut back heat and let simmer
take a few nuts out at about 2 hours to taste and see if they need anymore salt or whatever seasoning you are using add some if necessary
keep trying them until they get nice and soft and full of juice
once you think they are done take them out of the water and place them in a bowl as the longer they set in the water the more salty they will get
as far as the salt dont over do it, i use one of the big containers of salt and use maybe a half of it all together
add more or less to suit your taste
thanks man, you probably saved me a trip to south carolina with my wife ridin shotgun saying over and over,,,this has got to be the stupidest thing you have ever done..........
I boil them the same as crazyhorse..after about 4-5 hours I just turn the turkey frier way down and dip out as needed..BTW my wife just asked me what I was writing about and now I'm boilin peanuts this weekend. As someone has said you can get them from sam's. I get during off season and doctor a little and cook them in a pressure cooker for 1/2 hr ...very good.
Quite often I will cheat and buy already boiled and then frozen bags. Just heat them up and add what ever spices you want and you are good to go in a short amount of time. IMO they are just as good as starting from fresh.
