Northern Colorado
An other new guy checking in.  I'm Dave.  I live in Northern Colorado, where it was 65 and sunny today!  I have been a fairly successful griller (and generally enjoy cooking) and finally bought myself a smoker a month or so ago.  I have a horizontal off-set smoker that I believe to be home made - I found it at a neighbor's yard sale.  It's made of pretty thick steel and has nice horse shoe handles welded to it.  I have used it only once so far, with semi-terrible results.  I was tempted to add a photo since you guys like the Q-View, but it was too graphic (very badly blackened pork tenderloins).  After that experience I went looking for info and found these forums.  If only I found you guys 6 hours earlier! Who knew you could have too much smoke?  Nice thick white billowing smoke for 6 hours....yeah, it was that bad.  I have already read quite a few posts on here and look forward to being a better smoker.  I hope to add some recipes and entertainment along the way.   Good luck with all of those smoked turkeys, I think I should wait before I tackle one myself.

Welcome aboard, Dave!

The great guys and gals on this forum will have you doing it like a pro in no time.

Good luck and good smoking.

Welcome to the SMF Family...There probably isn't anyone here that has not walked a similar path, you came to the right place...JJ

Welcome to the forum Dave.  You will be able to find your answers here.  Hope your problems with your smoker get resolved.

Thanks everyone for the tips, links and encouragement.  Here are some photos of the Homemade Horizontal Smoker (HHS).  If the family allows, I plan to do some reading tomorrow and try some more tenderloins on Sunday.
