I just purchased a propane "GOSM" . I have never smoked and would appreciate some advice on smoking some basic meats. I do not want to smoke a turkey just yet but I think I can handle some pre-turkey ribs or salmon. I purchased a few bags of the Jack Daniels smoking chips so thats what I will be working with. Thanks for your time.

Greetings Pancho, and welcome to the SMF. Be sure and checkout Jeff's 5 day ecoarse, good basic reading/review. Do a search for the 3-2-1 method of smokin' ribs, very good. Salmon can be smokes several ways, with or w/o brining. Invest in at least one meat probe thermometer, as we cook by internal temp and not time. Happy Thanksgiving... and Viva Villa!

Welcome to SMF PV. Glad ya found us. I'm no help with gassers, but alot of individuals here are. They'll be in touch. Again, welcome!

Welcome Poncho. There is some great info available on this site. Also, the 5 day course is very good.

Hola PV ... welcome to SMF! You'll like those JD chips except for the fact that chips burn faster than chunks ... not to worry ... it's only money!

If there is anything you don't understand ... just keep asking

Buenos dias!

Welcome Ponco
I'm a newbie too, so I really don't have any advice, but you did come to the right place everyone here are great and have all the experience you'll need, I smoked my first fatty with these peoples advice and it turned out great. Thought I'd just say welcome and make sure you have a hanky ready, you'll be drooling for weeks on end.

Poncho:

Nice to have you on board. And, just in time for T' Day. I too, have a GOSM vertical. It is strait forward and really doesn't have any hidden surprises, so you shouldn't have any trouble. Even though yo are skipping a turkey for now, I would bet you will be ready to tackle it soon enough.

Once again, welcome to SMF.

Welcome to SMF! For info on propane smokers and on ribs check out the links at the left side of the page... lots of basic info to be found there. As you are already finding out, the people around here are always ready to give you a hand if you have a question so don't be shy about asking.

Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome Pancho -

Glad to have you aboard! Butts are about the easiest IMHO. Almost can't miss unless you loose patience waiting and waiting and waiting ... and they can get stuck at the same temperature for hours and hours ...

Chicken is a good first smoke it's quick and not a problem with higher tempes if they get out of control on you.
